CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. You've heard of the Reebok equipment, the Pegboard contest and the Cutting system. But do you know what to expect from the women's competition? Continue reading to learn more! The competition for women
This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. Koski was the overall winner after keeping her lead throughout the competition. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.
The women's contest is filled with high-level athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders, an Australian athlete who finished second in Australia in the team division and eleventh overall in 2020 is another contender. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 for men and earned his third win of the Games. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Pegboard tests the grip strength and coordination of competitors. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. After completing the Pegboard, the competition was intense and athletes felt a sense of accomplishment.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. While it's not as extreme or drastic as in previous Games, this year is very different. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.
This year's CrossFit Games field includes 236 athletes. It is the largest ever. Major cuts are made in the first six events. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. From there, the top twenty athletes compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announces new CrossFit Games clothing, shoes and other equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok claims this shoe is "the shoe that will fit all your fitness needs," but it's more like a regular training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar upper promotes breathability while ensuring durability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit and Reebok's partnership will end in 2020. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.
